More Random Acts of Husband

" Hey - Come out and see what we've got!"

These are the words that fill me with trepidation. Especially the 'we' part, which inevitably means more work for me.

And what have we got?

Meet Hattie -

Yes, Mike brought home another dog. A ninth dog. "But she needed a home! And isn't she sweet?"

Of course she's sweet. In fact it was hard to get a photo of her because she kept trying to crawl into my lap for a cuddle. Mike knows any resolve I have to be hard crumbles when I see the dog.

Hattie is destined for Underkeeper Ian, as his first working dog. She's a four-year-old cocker spaniel who's already had experience on the shooting field. She's biddable and lovely natured. She now belongs to Ian, but she'll be spending a lot of time in our kennels (and kitchen) while Ian finishes his course at Gamekeeping College.

I have learned to accept the inherent chaos of the universe. And of a husband. Plus, what's another scoop of dog food in the grand scheme of things?

  1. That's pretty much what I said when we ended up keeping Hannah, the little Aussie girl. What's the difference between 4 and 5? Or 8 and 9? Another scoop of dog food, another bowl of water. And lots more love! She IS adorable. I wouldn't have been able to resist.

  2. Oh my goodness!! Hattie is just scrumptious!!

On the sheep front I have a video that you will find fairly useful...... Does the name John Randall mean anything to you? Ask Tuss, (JR showed, and bred Dorset Downs for years, lucky enough to spend a bit of time with him. One of the old school english Gents. Let me know if you are about Friday morning and I'll drop it over

  3. She's lovely, and it's wonderful that she's already trained. Of all the random things that could include "we", that seems a rather pleasant one. Enjoy the cuddles!

  4. I can't help but think of that old Sesame Street ditty: "Nine, nine, nine! Let's sing a song about nine. How many is nine? Niiiiine woooooorrrrking dogs!"

Because there's an ocean separating us, I don't think this will be difficult, but I think it's important that my husband and your husband not get together unsupervised any time soon. We could come home to a new civilization.

PS - I'm glad I'm not the only one always getting my own shoes into my photographs!

  5. She *is* irresistible (also looks a lot like Podge, to my untrained eyes!). Glad you have learned to accept the chaos of the universe and your husband, and made your peace with it :)

  7. Can I borrow Mike, just until I have a house full of puppies?
