Our oldest retired spaniel Nellie had a stroke during the night. A trip to the vets confirmed it, and Nel was put to sleep in my arms at 8am this morning.
ok, after tears, I have a something that may make you smile. We travel afar often, whether in cars/trucks or our trusty steed, the Cessna 170B. Cherni, aka Booger, always notices when we (translate I) begin to pack. The warey-eyed pacing commences. We call this her Nervous-Nellie mode. I will remember Nell now everytime my dollie is in Nell mode. I send a hug from Alaska
So sorry to hear of the loss of Nellie - she certainly had a better life being rescued by you and that's something to take away. It's never easy but we always get another. I've got a soft spot for liver and white bitches like my springer of my youth, Bunny, and they look like they could have been litter mates. Hugs to all.
Thanks all for the kind words of sympathy. It's never easy parting with a friend. All the other dogs have got extra attention today, and have been great support. And of course Dulcie carries on so many of her mother's wonderful traits.
Nellie will be buried on the estate with her predecessors for company, and will still be visited every shoot day.
You gave a good dog a good life, doing constructive work among good friends both canine and human. I'm sure her death makes you sad, but I hope there's consolation in how well the two of you did by each other.
So sorry, Gwen. That's awful to go through. I'm glad that you had the chance to rescue her and provide a loving home. She could not have hoped for a better one. Sending you kind thoughts.
My condolences. It is so very difficult to lose a friend and working partner. I'm sure she was comforted knowing that you were by her side when she needed you the most.
Run fast and pain free at the Rainbow Bridge, Nellie. The pheasants up there are burrowing deep into cover, since they have heard that you are on the job up there.
Oh Jennifer, I'm so sorry. It's SO hard to lose a dog. Heartbreakingly hard, and sad. But always worth the love that they give, and that you give to them, before that has to happen. She was a beautiful dog, and will always have a place in your heart. Thanks for what you gave to her. Dog-love is unlike any other. Sending hugs to you this morning.
Oh Jen, both you and Mike must be gutted. The end of an era.
ReplyDeleteMy love to you both xx
Oh..I am so sorry for your loss. This is the second post I have read this morning where a beloved pet has passed.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like she was a sweet, dear friend.
Sending warm, comforting wishes your way.
Oh Jen. I have no words.
