Tune In

I posted last July about Mike's day participating in a reality TV show called Ladies of London. Well, it seems they actually made it and aired it. The episode which includes Mike teaching the ladies how to shoot premieres on Bravo this Monday 30 June at 10pm

We can't watch it over here in the UK, so you'll just have to let us know how it turns out if you tune in. Mike struggles with image issues post-accident, and he dug deep to find the wherewithal to be in front of a camera. I hope the camera captures his passion and commitment to his work more than his scars.

I'm sure he's going to be phenomenal! I've got the DVR set to record it because 10 PM is way past my bedtime.

Can you watch the video that is imbedded in the site? There's about a two-minute clip of the shooting segment. It's at http://www.bravotv.com/ladies-of-london/season-1/videos/juliet-s-poo-stance . If not, perhaps someone could email it to you, or post it on Facebook.

He looks great! I've been excited for the show since you mentioned it last year.

That's great news. I haven't even told Mike that it's on, but I'm glad to hear it all looked OK. Thanks for the feedback

Patti - We can't even watch that clip here, but I expect it will be on Youtube at some point. I think at the moment it would be hard for us to watch. Leaving the estate is still so fresh in our minds.

Mine too!

Mike did a wonderful job! Very dashing!
One lady quipped after grabbing part of the clay pigeons (for a souvenir), "It matches my nail polish!"

Jennifer Montero said...

Peruby - Dashing, eh? He'll like that. I wonder if someone will develop a line of clay pigeon coloured nail polish now...

Dashing, indeed! I'm checking in from California to report that your Mike comported himself very well. He came across as warm and funny - also patient, with those silly girls. Please assure him that he's a very, very attractive man, scars or no scars!

PS - thanks for sharing your life with us. Your blog is wonderful, and it was especially fun to see someone I felt like I sort of knew on TV, so far away.

I watched the show and I must say, the way Julie spoke of Mike was endearing. I think that even if they didn't show it well, the family knew Mike was a good man.
He looks quite smart in his shooting tweeds. He has healed so much in the past year--when I saw you both in February he looked really great. On the show his face looks a bit sunburned, and his hands look arthritic, but overall he looks like a handsome gent.
He is very patient with the ladies and is clearly great at the social aspects of being a gamekeeper. My favorite part is when one of them makes the shot and starts jumping up and down; Mike very smoothy and deftly takes the gun away from her so she can keep reveling without shooting anyone in the face, a la Dick Cheney.

Preventing a Dick Cheney moment is rule no 1. You also lean to gently and discreetly (so as not to embarrass your "gun") push the barrel up with two fingers to keep the gun pointing upwards and safe at all times. And, when a person is about to shoot a shotgun for the first time, it's best to stand to the side with your left hand just behind his shoulder. Sometimes the recoil causes the person to fall backwards and lose balance. Your left hand steadies him and your right hand is free to catch the gun (nervous people sometimes drop it inadvertently). Oh and only load one cartridge at a time for learners (keep all cartridges with you), so when the gun's fired, you know it's empty. There - now you too can be a loader on a reality show!

I think Mike looks great,- a handsome chap.
A big thank you for introducing me to Louise Erdrich , your current read, I am always interested in your book choices and I read this one and loved it . Have ordered some more of hers, and I would never hve come across her if it hadn't been for this blog.thank you
Hope you are settling in well.

Seafordwoman - Your comment made my day. Louise Erdrich is one of my favourite authors and turning anyone else on to her work makes me feel like I've done a service. All of her books are equally wonderful. Reading The Beet Queen started me off. Have you tried Sherman Alexie?

Anon - Thank you so much for your comments about Mike, and about the blog. It's nice to feel like people know us too.

Anon - Thank you so much for the link; I was able to watch it (well, got through half anyway!). I see Mike "borrowed" my gun to teach the ladies (obviously why they shot straight..ahem..:) and it was nice to see the cricket lawn and stone pavillion, where Mike and I were married on a cold January day sandwiched between shoot days. Our honeymoon was spent at the gun shop picking up cartridges for the next days' guests. I even bred some of those fancy chickens wandering around the place!

Chantelle - That's such a kind comment, thank you.
