I've just finished knitting my very first sock!
It's a knee-length shooting sock in Superba wool (colour: 'Santa Fe'), for you yarn nerds. Pip is thoroughly underwhelmed by my achievement, but I'm proud. Socks are an advanced knitting project and I am not an advanced knitter. Yet, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. In fact, it was kind of addictive - which is good because I have to start all over again and knit one exactly like this one before I can wear them.

I love sock knitting - and I agree that in spite of the mystique and the complicated looking array of needles, I find them the easiest things to knit! No sewing up for a start, and not much in the way of ends. I love your socks - I have never knitted any that long!
Pomona x
That is a superba sock indeed.
I'm getting on rather slowly with my one but lost (or just misplaced) the pattern you gave me. Did you find the book helpful?
I have to admit that your sock is pretty darn (!!!) amazing!!
Pomona - Now that I know the basic structure, it seems like a 'no-brainer'. I hope this encourages other hesitant sock knitters out there.
Tamar - Big praise indeed, as you're not a crafty-type person. Loud, stripey, and warm is a winning combo.
PC - I couldn't have finished it without the book you gave me! I abandoned the pattern just before turning the heel and followed the book pattern. It was so much clearer. If your sock pattern doesn't turn up, I'll lend you the book.
I had already got a copy hence why I thought it was a good gift idea, but might need you to talk me through pattern as my brain seems to have come to pretty much a stand still!!
(mind you I think it stood still many a year ago!)
I have a book on knitting two socks at the same time on a large circular needle, and another on knitting a single sock on two circular needles, neither of which I've cracked. In fact, the only sock I've knitted was on four sock pins, and I never did knit the other, so I have to say, good for you!
I also have to say that I'm a sucker for socks with crazy patterns and/or loud colors, and your sock would be right at home in my sock drawer.
Impressive! You should feel proud. I've never knitted a sock before and have very little confidence that I could ever make a matched set. I think I'll stick to starting projects in winter and then abandoning them, half-finished, come spring.
Fantastic hunni, you will have to make some Mike next LMAO XXX Will have to get you to give me some lessons ;) XXX
