Date Night - Dorset style

I know most people go out to dinner or the movies, but this time of year we're lucky to find an hour to spend together. That's enough time for us to either catch up on the day's events or unwind enjoying our hobbies. It was rare we could do both, until we invented Knishing -

If one of you is a fisherman and the other likes to knit, compromise is easy. I sat by the pond on an upturned dinghy working on my jumper while Mike cast a line.

It's slightly midge-ier than sitting on the couch at home, but the early evening sounds of pheasants going to roost, and tawny owls calling out their territorial claims more than compensates for a few bug bites. I'm ready with a net in case he hooks something.

And he did -

A 5+ pound rainbow trout. We had steaks for dinner, and I made trout gravlax from the rest of it.

If only all compromises in a marriage were this easy, and ended in two nights' worth of dinner!

Think I have just brought an alpaca. Found that carding it make it much easier to spin some of the fleece I have been given as a try. It isn't as hard as I though it would be! Although the carder I used was coarser then the one you used (When you are over this way I might as if you can help me with that carder - I can't seem to set it up right.) Looks like your date night was a lot more fun then trying to talk over a lot of noise in a pub!!

Only you would start a sentence with "I think I just bought an alpaca"! If you want a hand wrestling/shearing it, just shout. Quietish week coming up - will stop in for coffee and to return your audiobook, and we'll look at that carder then.

We have garbage dates. As in go to the dump dates for 30 minutes alone time together when he's not a) working on something b) flying or c) driving. So we go to the dump. And I pay! At least it's cheaper than going to the movies. And W A Y more fun.

Janice - you beat us hands down with dump dates! Can you bring a bottle of wine and watch bears scavenge too? That would almost be a second honeymoon.

Brilliant. Am in all week until Thursday if that is any help. Xx

We go rishing- he fishes and I read a book. We usually bring a picnic because his fishing skills are not quite as effective.

The trout made up for my disappointment in finding out that this activity does not involve knishes.

Yes on the wine, no on the bears. Running Away D O G might be endangered. Then I wd have to kill said bear w/my own two hands. Like Scout says in my favorite movie, "Ain't nobody gonna do Jem like that!" I'll bring the wine next week and if he looks askance, I'll tell him you said...

Love it!

Sadly, Dorset is an ethnic food desert. But we're lousy with trout. I would swap that fish for a taco or cannoli in a NY minute.

That sounds perfect, LOL. My husband and I often struggle to spend time with each other, too. After the kids are in bed we both just want to unwind in to our hobbies, but that leaves little time to spend with each other. Sure wish husband would fish. I already knit, but it sure would be fun to combine the two. :)
